Full Steam Ahead

"If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be."

~ Roald Dahl

This quote reminds me of one of my first small businesses, a chocolate chip cookie company called "Passionchip" which I founded and ran in New York over 30 years ago. After creating the recipe and the plan, I obtained a health permit from the county for my home kitchen. I installed a large professional (30 quart, I think) Hobart mixer and ran the entire operation from my beachside cottage on the north shore of Long Island. The cookies were packaged in white bags and sold through gourmet shops, delis and a restaurant in New York. Looking back, I am proud of my success as a young entrepreneur in New York. The cookies were relatively healthy for cookies at that time: whole wheat flour and without salt, but they did have sugar.  It was a creative, successful venture that I discontinued when I read "Sugar Blues" by William Dufty and then, immediately, drastically altered my diet. How could I sell something that I no longer agreed with? In fact, that book changed the entire course of my life.
